Postpartum Essentials for Mom

In Clean, Heal, Prepare, Protect, Sleep, Wear by Kari

Let’s talk a little bit about what you will need at home for Mom after having the baby. Here is a list of helpful items to make healing more comfortable.

  • Tucks Witch Hazel Pads
    • These were heaven to me and really helped to soothe post-delivery. I would even keep some on my maxi pad sometimes for relief and cooling. I did get a hemorrhoid but not everybody does. I think they were helpful for tearing, too. This might be something you want to have on-hand in case, or have somebody run out to get some after. I like to be prepared and have access to things right away, personally.
  • Maxi Pads
  • Lidocaine or Menthol Spray
    • Can help relieve pain from hemorrhoids or tearing. You can get this at a drug store.
  • Bigger Underwear
    • In case you have a c-section to avoid pinching the incision site.
  • Stool Softener
    • If you are prone to constipation, have a stool softener on hand. Going #2 after delivering a baby is an event to say the least. So make it a little easier.
  • Sitz Bath
    • Can also help relieve pain from tearing. Just fill it with warm water and some Epsom salt (optional).
  • Disposable Bed Pad
    • Put in your chair or in bed just in case there’s a leak.
  • Perineal Rinse Bottle
    • For cleansing after going to the bathroom if wiping is uncomfortable.
  • A Water Bottle
    • Get a good water bottle that makes you want to drink lots of water.
  • Snacks and Quick Meals
    • I recommend preparing easy crockpot freezer meals ahead of time!
  • Breastfeeding-Friendly Pajamas.
  • Nursing Tanks, Nursing Tanks, Nursing Tanks!
